FREEDOM PARK WILL BE THE NEW HOME OF THE PACIFIC WAR MUSEUM

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PACIFIC WAR MUSEUM FOUNDATION. January 2022.

The Pacific War Museum is relocating to Freedom Park, the property formerly known as the Guam Greyhound Racetrack, in Tamuning. The Museum has secured six concrete two-story buildings at the entrance to the property to showcase its collection of Pacific War artifacts. In addition to preserving the museum assets, the new location will introduce new interactive exhibits for all ages to enjoy.

President and Museum Director, Mela Gerber said, “This Museum is my husband, John Gerber’s legacy and we are excited to continue educating the people of Guam and our visitors about the history around the invasion, occupation and liberation of Guam.”
Gerber added, We hope to make Freedom Park an attraction for all ages to enjoy, while learning about a subject that means so much to all of us. The Liberation of Guam and our Chamorro-American heritage!

The Pacific War Museum at Freedom Park plans to break ground this year and open to the public in 2022. Here are a few of the features that the Museum will offer:

PACIFIC WAR EXHIBITS

Artifacts from the war, both large and small, shape the exhibits which feature weapons, helmets, and uniforms of those who served. The stories of powerful generals and everyday people come together to tell the story of perseverance and heroism across the Pacific Theater. Each room contains one or more central stories to anchor the exhibition, along with accounts from dozens of additional CHamorro service personnel and civilians, whose artifacts and eyewitness testimonies offer unique insight into the many experiences of war.

THE PACIFIC WAR MUSEUM GIFT SHOP AND CAFE

The Gift Shop at the Pacific War Museum features a wide range of products related to its various exhibitions, including an outstanding selection of books, models and games. Other favorites include collectables such as CHamorro souvenir items, clothing and accessories, toy soldiers and other products for children.

FREEDOM WALKING PARK

Residents of Tamuning, we are proud to introduce to you Tamuning's first and only walking park. Freedom park will maintain a safe and lit up walking venue for residents to get back in shape and become active again.

CHAMORRO PATRIOT PAVILION

In honor of the CHamoru Militia that assisted the Americans in Liberating the island during World War 2, the CHamorro Patriot Pavilion will be an outdoor venue for hosting small to midsize events.

FREEDOM PARK ENTERTAINMENT VENUE

At the Center of Freedom Park will be a Multipurpose platform that is outfitted as a state-of-the- art, plug and play event stage for large-scale outdoor events. The venue will be designed to have the ability to comfortably host a 2500 person outdoor event or ceremony. The Museum will be organizing a weekly food truck night, as well as an annual Freedom Ball and Fair, and we encourage event planners of all sizes to consider our event spaces for their next event.

CAMP GERBERVILLE

Camp Gerberville will be an immersive experience for children aged 12 or under, offering a variety of fun and engaging activities. This area was inspired by the late John Gerber, who was famous for his creativity and construction of amazing play structures for children to spend hours with friends and family. Whether your child wants to take on the soft play assault course, climb aboard a fighter jet playground or prepare SOS in the kids mess hall, Gerberville Bootcamp will be a new venue for after school fun and play dates.

SPONSOR OPPORTUNITIES

The Museum will be seeking support from corporate sponsors, individual donors and community volunteers to assist with this vision. For more information, please contact sponsor@guampacificwar.org.
